 SUSPENDED BRIDGE - 406 PATH - ON FOOT TREK FROM THE SASSI TO THE BELVEDERE PANORAMIC SPOT OF MURGIA TIMONE - "TIBETAN BRIDGE" - FOR EXPERT HIKERS 


We start on foot from the Sassi, walking through the historic center until we reach the beginning of path 406, the trail that descends into the Gravina canyon.
The route is varied and scenic: stone steps, rocky sections, short technical passages and easier stretches along the stream.
We reach the famous Suspended Bridge, the walkway connecting the two sides of the canyon. After crossing it, the trail climbs up the Murgia slope, offering spectacular views over the Sassi and the rock walls.
At the top, we arrive at the Belvedere of Murgia Timone, the most iconic viewpoint of the Park, where the city looks like a nativity scene carved into stone.

What the trek includes

  • Descent from the Sassi into the canyon
  • Crossing of the Suspended/Tibetan Bridge
  • Panoramic climb to the Murgia plateau
  • Arrival at the Belvedere viewpoint
  • Option to visit caves, avucchiare and rupestrian churches (with key, depending on the tour)
  • Return on foot or by shuttle from the Belvedere (depending on schedule and tour type)

ACCESS TICKET – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Most of my tours take place in free-access areas.
There are three exceptions.

1 — Rupestrian Churches Area (Belvedere Classic Tour)

This part of the park, although public, is managed by a private company, and an entrance ticket is required.
The standard ticket is 10 €, but thanks to a dedicated agreement, with an independent guide the cost is reduced to 6.50 €.
The ticket includes:

  • access to the rupestrian churches
  • toilets
  • shuttle service from the Belvedere to the visitor center

2 — "Tibetan Bridge" tour - 406 path - Suspended Bridge 

As for the Belvedere tour, an entrance ticket is required.
The standard ticket is 15 €, but thanks to a dedicated agreement, with an independent guide the cost is reduced to 9.50 €.
The ticket includes:

  • access to the rupestrian churches
  • toilets
  • shuttle service from the Belvedere to the visitor center (if you prefer not to walk back) to take a taxi and go back in town. 

3 — Private areas of the Park (about 80%)

 A large portion of the Murgia Park is private property. Access is allowed only with a guide and under an agreement with the landowner. I am in touch with almost all of them, and in many cases I am the exclusive guide allowed to lead visitors in those areas.
In many cases, an entrance contribution is requested to support trail maintenance and site safety.

*ABOUT PRIVATE AND GROUP HIKES:

**WHY I DON’T USE AUTOMATIC BOOKINGS: I prefer to manage every booking personally because hikes in the Murgia Park are not standard products: they change depending on weather, trail conditions, group level, and personal needs.
Automatic booking systems cannot evaluate these factors and often create mistakes, wrong expectations, or inaccurate schedules.
By handling your booking directly, I can guarantee:

  • accurate information about the trail and daily conditions
  • full customization of your experience
  • safety and the right route for your level
  • correct pricing for private or group tours
  • direct communication with no intermediaries

Texting me directly means having a real guide, someone who follows you before, during, and after the hike, and an experience truly tailored to you.
 

HOW MY PRICING SYSTEM WORKS

My prices are transparent and follow a simple logic designed to help solo travelers, couples, families and small groups.

Private tour (1–3 people)

The base cost is 80 € for 1–2 participants.
If more people join beyond 2, the price increases by 10 € per additional person.
A private tour is fully dedicated to you, with no other participants.

Group tour (4+ people)

The price starts at 25 € per person when the group has 4 participants.
For every additional person, the price decreases by 5 €.
It works “the opposite way” because it doesn’t depend on me: it depends on how many people request the same time slot. 
Of course, I cannot guarantee that a group forms. But if you secure your spot with a small deposit, it becomes much more likely. And if the group doesn’t form, I will still guarantee your tour at a special rate, lower than the private tour price. 

Why this structure?

  • A private tour has a fixed cost because it is reserved only for you.
  • A group tour shares the cost among participants, so the more people join, the lower the price. Sometimes they join booking last minute!
  • This system makes the experience affordable for solo travelers and fair for families and small groups: I don't want people going away from Matera without visiting the park!
